D. Grenville Thomas, P.Eng
President & CEO, Director
Gren Thomas has been involved in the mining industry for over 50 years. During this time he has built up a multifaceted track record of discovery, most notably the world-class Diavik mine and the Thor Lake rare metals deposit both in the Northwest Territories. He was the founder (and has held positions as Chairman, President and Director) of Toronto-based Aber Resources Ltd. (now Dominion Diamond Corporation). Mr. Thomas is currently the Chairman of North Arrow Minerals Inc., Strongbow Exploration Ltd. and Helio Resources Ltd.
Mr. Thomas is a graduate of University College, Cardiff, Wales obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering in 1964. Mr. Thomas’s discoveries in advancing Canada’s diamond industry have won him many honours, including the PDAC’s Prospector of the Year Award for 1999. In January of 2009, Mr. Thomas was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
Victor A. Tanaka, P.Geo
Vic Tanaka has over 40 years experience as a geologist and exploration manager with junior and senior companies. During his career he has participated in several mineral discoveries in Canada’s Arctic and Saskatchewan. He has held senior positions with Freeport McMoran Gold Co., Aber Resources Ltd., Asamera Inc., Cominco Ltd., Canarc Resources and Fjordland Exploration Inc.
Mr. Tanaka is currently Chief Operating Officer of Bayswater Uranium Corporation and is also a director of Fjordland Exploration Inc., Impact Minerals Ltd. and Serengeti Resources Inc., all companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange.
Shaun Pollard, BCOM, MBA, CMT
Shaun Pollard is a founding partner at Meridian Capital International Ltd, a mining focused advisory firm, where he is responsible for providing corporate finance and marketing solutions to both public and privately held resource companies. He has assisted explorers through to producers in raising capital and awareness through an established, international network of accredited investors. Mr. Pollard also acts as the Chief Investing Officer for Meridian’s investment vehicle which actively invests in commodity and index derivatives and accomplished public companies.
Mr. Pollard is a Chartered Market Technician and a member of the Market Technicians Association. He obtained his Bachelors of Commerce degree from Royal Roads University and, more recently, his Masters of Business Administration from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.
Gareth Thomas, B.A.
Gareth Thomas has been involved in the mining industry for over 12 years and has extensive exploration experience and market knowledge. Mr. Thomas's diversity of skills has led to experiences in all facets of junior mining. Prior to Westhaven, he worked with various public companies in the role of Corporate Development overseeing business development, investor relations and project acquisitions. Mr. Thomas gained invaluable field experience working for Stornoway Diamond Corporation, Aber Resources (now Dominion Diamond Corporation) and Aurora Geosciences.
Mr. Thomas is also the Managing Director of Anglo Celtic Exploration Ltd., a private venture capital company, and is the co-founder of Westhaven Ventures Inc. Mr. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of British Columbia.
E.A. (Ed) Balon, P.Geo.
Throughout his career, Ed Balon has co-discovered several important deposits. Some of these include Gayna River zinc-lead, Northwest Territories; Logan zinc-silver-tin, Yukon Territory; Midway (Silvertip) silver-lead-zinc, northern British Columbia; and the Elk/Siwash high grade gold veins in southern British Columbia. Mr. Balon is widely recognized for identifying the Spences Bridge epithermal gold belt in southern British Columbia, where Westhaven’s Shovelnose gold project is located.
Mr. Balon graduated with a Diploma in Mining Engineering Technology from Northern College-Haileybury School of Mines, Ontario in 1970. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC).
In November 2014, Ed Balon was inducted into the Yukon Prospectors' Association "Hall of Fame" in recognition of significant discoveries made during the 1970's. This includes leading the team that discovered the Logan Deposit (13.08 Mt @5.1% zinc & 23.7g/t silver) northwest of Watson Lake in 1979.
